Using the Petawat laser from the Center for Relativity Laser Science (CoReLS), a Korean Institute of Basic Science, the researchers demonstrated a record high laser pulse intensity of more than 1023 W/cm2. It took more than a decade to reach this laser intensity, ten times the record set by a team at the University of Michigan in 2004.
