According to the report, Chinese academic papers account for 22.4% of the total number of scientific journal papers, followed by the European Union (16.4%) and the United States (14%). In addition, China lags behind in the rate of paper citations. Singapore, Australia and Switzerland were cited more frequently when articles appeared in small numbers.
